Tuesday 4/5

Hello Pine family! We are in day 2 of our new items of focus in class. We practiced our new magic words HEAR and LISTEN and asked and answered our good question word WHAT? questions. Our friends are really liking our new centers, because who doesn't love cars right?! (LOL) At our morning gathering, we are practicing our good greetings with eye contact, a wave and/or hello, and even the person's name. As we discuss and dismiss for centers, I am teaching our friends the importance (or the why) of our centers. We are discovering that learning happens through play/having fun. We can play a game of BINGO and help our brains learn letters while also practicing good friendship skills of waiting patiently and taking turns. We played with cars to help us initiate conversation about details/descriptive words (e.g. fast, slow, little, green, etc.), working together and using our imagination to discuss how we can we play with the cars/what materials we may want to include with the cars, and also practicing letters when parking the cars in our "letter parking lot". At sensory table, we are encouraging the use of some of our 5 senses to initiate conversation about what we see or how something feels, or even if there is a sound we can HEAR. We also have to be patient as we share the space and materials. As we move through centers we are working the ability to predict what comes next, how to transition safely/appropriately, and how to care for our selves and materials. Our friends have come such a long way this year, growing and learning together and as I reflect on that I am so proud :) Another reason to be proud today is that we filled our classroom bucket and have earned a special celebration (surprise/treat). As a family, we came up with ideas on what kind of things we would like as a celebration. Amongst the great ideas were a special treat to eat and a special dress up day. We then took a vote and the results were........SPECIAL TREAT TO EAT! The teachers are discussing and will surprise our friends with something yummy to celebrate all our KINDNESS!

Submarine Update

Yesterday the Pine friends continued their exploration on how to create a submarine out of a box. They first started drawing sketches of how it should look.  "It needs to have windows!" "We should make it yellow too." "It also needs a telescope (periscope)." Now that the drawing phase was complete, some friends wandered over to then build a submarine out of the blocks. They worked purposefully and explained the different parts as they worked.  "We need to cut out a circle for it to be the telescope." B, V, & E continued to work with one another and make compromises throughout their building in order to make the best version of a submarine as they could.  The three finished building their submarine, but noticed something was missing.  "It needs a propeller so it can move!" How could they make a propeller? What does a propeller look like? The kids got to work on some research about wh...
