Changing Things Up

Wow, November, can you believe it? Since August, our little room has had some pretty big changes as more kids have joined us and COVID guidelines becoming barriers to some things we have been able to do in the past. That being said, the kids have had to make changes for themselves in the classroom as well. We are seeing a lot of really good things happening in terms of play skills expanding and friendships growing. So good!

We also have experienced some challenges along the way. In order to combat those challenges, the Pine teaching team has had to make some adjustments to make all children receive the support they need in order to succeed. One of our hardest times is meeting time. This is a time where all 6 boys are expected to sit and participate in a variety of songs, books, and other friendship building games. I'll be honest, meetings were exhausting for everyone! Our little guys in the morning are movers and don't always have the attention span to sit up to 15 minutes. That's a long time! One of the easiest ways to gauge how long a child should be attending or sitting is to think about their age. If a child is three, we should be expecting them to sit for up to 3 minutes before getting up or needing some kind of movement break. That being said, our meetings have now changed drastically.

Today was a very successful meeting time as each one of them had the opportunity to first play with a preferred object or toy. It allowed them to make requests and get used to sitting for a few minutes doing something they wanted. After a few minutes with a toy and returning to the basket, we reviewed our expectations of listening ears and a calm body while sitting. All the boys did an amazing job! After practicing sitting for awhile they were then able to participate successfully with Ms. Kari!

Welcome back

Happy Tuesday! I hope you enjoyed your extra long weekend together but glad to see you all today. We changed out our word of the week, ask your kiddo if they remember what it is (PUT). At centers we continued exploring small world and our bakery. We opened the sensory table again and some faux snow and polar animals which was a big hit! We also changed out our gross motor center, changing out our obstacle course (crawl through tunnel, jump 10 times on the trampoline, and (steam)roll or summersault on the mat) for some thing new. Ask your kiddo if they tried to scoop the snowball, carry it across the balance beam and PUT it on the snowman.

Week 2 Day 2

Pine Family is rocking and rolling in week 2! We are having less feelings of sad, mad, and scared upon entering class and more happy and fun throughout the day!  Friendly reminders: Water bottles should only come to school filled with water (it's the best for our bodies and in case another student would accidently take a sip it won't cause harm), sunscreen should be applied before drop off (there is not a lot of shade and not a lot of time for us to get the kiddos all lathered up), and bug spray should be applied before drop off (this is mostly needed when we start going to the forest on Tuesdays, starting on Sept 12th). Thanks :)

so close now....

Can you believe that we only have one more day together this school year? Today we celebrated the second to last day with a summer bday celebration. We also revealed our tie dyed shirts! (we only did a light rinse, beware that colors will run when you wash!!) TOMORROW: WATER DAY! You need to wear your suit, water friendly shoes, sunscreen already applied, water bottle, towel and dry clothes to change into!
