Falling Leaves

The forest is always a place where the kids really take in the nature around them. As soon as we reach the wooded area the kids immediately notice the swaying trees in the breeze, the bird sounds, and of course all of the falling leaves. 

Unfortunately there weren't many leaves falling on their own in the forest so we decided to recreate the same idea in the classroom. After snack, the boys had the chance to pick up some fake leaves and put them through the wind tunnel. They took turns placing leaves onto the fan and then watching them gently float down to the carpet. 

The boys used two different strategies to pick up the leaves. B was using a lint roller to get the leaves to stick and then using his other hand to pull them off. Such a cool idea Ms. Julie thought of! L was just using his small fingers to gently pick them up and place them into the tunnel. 

Both boys would cheer and laugh as they watched the leaves come tumbling out. 

 B would shout "Yellow!" as he watched the bright leaf come out of the tube. 

It's great to recreate these kinds of activities right in our classroom. We are hoping to watch some leaves fall at our next visit to the forest.
