In & Out

Happy Thursday! We wrapped up our week with a lot of time outside today. Luckily it is absolutely beautiful out and we were able to capitalize on that 😊

This is also the last day we focused on the core words in, out, open, and eat! We headed outside to the cave area to play and engage with some activities that would really drive the use of the words in, out, and open.

To start, the boys made their way to a giant connect four game! This was such a great way to incorporate the words in and out. While the boys dropped both the red and blue pucks into the holes, we modeled some self talk on what they were doing. Once the whole board was filled, Ms. Jenn pulled the bottom off and all of them came tumbling out! The noise of the game pieces hitting the ground made both boys watch and pay attention to where they landed. As they came out, N picked them up to get ready to put them back in.

While L continued to work on putting the pieces in and out N saw a tub full of frozen pucks. N looked a little closer and noticed different animals and objects inside of the frozen disks!

The two boys, and some others from Dogwood, worked hard to get the objects out with the various tools provided. While some boys used spray bottles and eye droppers to try and melt the ice, others used the other end of the paintbrush to hammer and break the ice open.

N used so many different strategies to try and free the airplane, dragonfly, and train out of the ice. First, he tried using the opposite end of the paint brush as a hammer to crack the ice open. When that didn't work, he picked up an eye dropper to try and melt it some more. Once the ice was melted down enough, N realized he would be able to pull the objects out with his fingers! Success!

Week 2 Day 2

Pine Family is rocking and rolling in week 2! We are having less feelings of sad, mad, and scared upon entering class and more happy and fun throughout the day!  Friendly reminders: Water bottles should only come to school filled with water (it's the best for our bodies and in case another student would accidently take a sip it won't cause harm), sunscreen should be applied before drop off (there is not a lot of shade and not a lot of time for us to get the kiddos all lathered up), and bug spray should be applied before drop off (this is mostly needed when we start going to the forest on Tuesdays, starting on Sept 12th). Thanks :)

Welcome back

Happy Tuesday! I hope you enjoyed your extra long weekend together but glad to see you all today. We changed out our word of the week, ask your kiddo if they remember what it is (PUT). At centers we continued exploring small world and our bakery. We opened the sensory table again and some faux snow and polar animals which was a big hit! We also changed out our gross motor center, changing out our obstacle course (crawl through tunnel, jump 10 times on the trampoline, and (steam)roll or summersault on the mat) for some thing new. Ask your kiddo if they tried to scoop the snowball, carry it across the balance beam and PUT it on the snowman.

All the fun

Today was not a typical day in the Pine room. We pulled out some new items to explore, had an impromptu dance party, capered, had a practice fire drill (during snack of all times) and ended out in the sunshine by the snail.  To our sick friends, we wish you well and hope to see you Monday! Have a great weekend :)
