Exploring the Forest

Every Wednesday, depending on the weather, we will continue to go to the forest and explore. That's exactly what we did today! N and L had the chance to run around the many paths, looking at the different leaves, trees, and fallen logs. Going to the forest is always exciting, but we are always looking for ways to make our visits more purposeful. Since today was our first day there, it was full of exploring, digging, and climbing. It wasn't until the very end of our time N started interacting with the nature loom we created.

L spent a lot of time plopping down in the dirt and picking up the leaves and sticks around him. He used some sticks to dig a little bit, picked up large leaves, and looked around with a curious eye. He was making conversation while he pointed at everything that intrigued him. I can't wait to see what he finds to put into the loom next week!

In order to make our next few visits to the forest more purposeful we created a loom in which the kids can weave different nature treasures they find in the forest into the twine grid. We have been using the core words in and out this week so this was the perfect activity to incorporate them while playing.

N looked at the loom and noticed something familiar. He began to strum the crisscrossed twine like a guitar! N giggled as he waved his hand back and forth.

After showing N what to do, he picked up a stick and attempted to weave it through. Once he finished putting the stick through he darted back in the wooded area.

As he ran through the forest he came to a big log. He checked it out and decided he wanted to climb up it. Like a mountain climber, N got down on his hands and knees and began his ascent up the log. Once he reached the top he looked down and realized he was pretty high up,  but knew to ask for help to get down. N continued to climb up and ask for help down 3 or 4 more times before we left to go back to school.

On our walk back we ran into an old friend, Belle! Belle is the sweet dog who lives next door to Ambrose. We always feel so lucky when she is out and comes to say hi.

Week 2 Day 2

Pine Family is rocking and rolling in week 2! We are having less feelings of sad, mad, and scared upon entering class and more happy and fun throughout the day!  Friendly reminders: Water bottles should only come to school filled with water (it's the best for our bodies and in case another student would accidently take a sip it won't cause harm), sunscreen should be applied before drop off (there is not a lot of shade and not a lot of time for us to get the kiddos all lathered up), and bug spray should be applied before drop off (this is mostly needed when we start going to the forest on Tuesdays, starting on Sept 12th). Thanks :)

Welcome back

Happy Tuesday! I hope you enjoyed your extra long weekend together but glad to see you all today. We changed out our word of the week, ask your kiddo if they remember what it is (PUT). At centers we continued exploring small world and our bakery. We opened the sensory table again and some faux snow and polar animals which was a big hit! We also changed out our gross motor center, changing out our obstacle course (crawl through tunnel, jump 10 times on the trampoline, and (steam)roll or summersault on the mat) for some thing new. Ask your kiddo if they tried to scoop the snowball, carry it across the balance beam and PUT it on the snowman.

All the fun

Today was not a typical day in the Pine room. We pulled out some new items to explore, had an impromptu dance party, capered, had a practice fire drill (during snack of all times) and ended out in the sunshine by the snail.  To our sick friends, we wish you well and hope to see you Monday! Have a great weekend :)
