Building Bridges

On Friday the teachers in Pine had the opportunity to rearrange the room to be more accessible for all of the kids. We realized that the area dedicated to blocks was just too small for several kids to build. That prompted us to move the blocks to the shared space right outside of our classroom. The Pine kids noticed immediately.

"Um, where did all the blocks go?"
"Do we still get to play with the blocks?"

We talked about how we do still get to play with the blocks, but now our friends from Dogwood can build with us too!

The kids also noticed a few different books near the blocks. The books are full of pictures of different buildings and structures across the world.

E & E settled with a book about bridges.

"I want to make this one with like the curve thingy. I need it to be high up though like the picture in the book. It is going over the water, but we don't have any water so I will just make it like this."

E set up the curved piece on top of two blocks.
"Look, now it's high up like the one in the picture!"

E noticed how E was building and had an idea of how to create the road.
"We can put it like this."
He began putting the cardboard piece on top of the two rectangular blocks.
"Now we have the road! The cars can go across now."

V & B were inspired by the other bridges being built and decided to create their own.

Such amazing construction happening in the Pine room today!

Week 2 Day 2

Pine Family is rocking and rolling in week 2! We are having less feelings of sad, mad, and scared upon entering class and more happy and fun throughout the day!  Friendly reminders: Water bottles should only come to school filled with water (it's the best for our bodies and in case another student would accidently take a sip it won't cause harm), sunscreen should be applied before drop off (there is not a lot of shade and not a lot of time for us to get the kiddos all lathered up), and bug spray should be applied before drop off (this is mostly needed when we start going to the forest on Tuesdays, starting on Sept 12th). Thanks :)
