Races

Today in the collaboratory E & V decided to time how long it took them to complete the obstacle course.
"We want to see how fast we can do it!"
"Can you count for us?"
"Maybe we can use a timer!"

We pulled out the iPad and after a quick tutorial on how to access the stopwatch, E & V were off timing themselves on how fast they could race through the course.

After a few laps the girls were asking if I remembered each number from each trial... sadly, I did not.

"Maybe we can write the numbers down. Then we will remember how fast we are going."

"Look the 9 is smaller than this number [13]. We went so fast that time!"
"If the number is smaller, does that mean we went faster?"
"I think if it's bigger it means we went fast."
"I don't really know which one is faster."

This was a bit confusing. The two girls seemed to understand that in most games if you have a bigger number then you win! In terms of a race though, does a bigger number mean you've won? Something we will have to keep thinking about for next week.

Welcome back

Happy Tuesday! I hope you enjoyed your extra long weekend together but glad to see you all today. We changed out our word of the week, ask your kiddo if they remember what it is (PUT). At centers we continued exploring small world and our bakery. We opened the sensory table again and some faux snow and polar animals which was a big hit! We also changed out our gross motor center, changing out our obstacle course (crawl through tunnel, jump 10 times on the trampoline, and (steam)roll or summersault on the mat) for some thing new. Ask your kiddo if they tried to scoop the snowball, carry it across the balance beam and PUT it on the snowman.

Week 2 Day 2

Pine Family is rocking and rolling in week 2! We are having less feelings of sad, mad, and scared upon entering class and more happy and fun throughout the day!  Friendly reminders: Water bottles should only come to school filled with water (it's the best for our bodies and in case another student would accidently take a sip it won't cause harm), sunscreen should be applied before drop off (there is not a lot of shade and not a lot of time for us to get the kiddos all lathered up), and bug spray should be applied before drop off (this is mostly needed when we start going to the forest on Tuesdays, starting on Sept 12th). Thanks :)

so close now....

Can you believe that we only have one more day together this school year? Today we celebrated the second to last day with a summer bday celebration. We also revealed our tie dyed shirts! (we only did a light rinse, beware that colors will run when you wash!!) TOMORROW: WATER DAY! You need to wear your suit, water friendly shoes, sunscreen already applied, water bottle, towel and dry clothes to change into!
