At the beginning of this week we started a book called "Not a Box." The main character uses an ordinary box to create different modes of transportation. That gave the class some ideas on what we could do if we had a box. The class took a few walks over the week asking different businesses if they had any empty clean boxes they were willing to part with. No luck.
It wasn't until yesterday afternoon we found three boxes! So today, we took a vote and began drawing up some ideas on what we could do with our box.
At meeting we voted on what we should create.
There was a tie, so we decided to ask E if she would rather make a car or a submarine as the deciding vote.
"I want to make a rocket ship, but nobody else does. I want to help make a submarine!"
A few of the kids sat down and began drawing up some ideas on how they wanted to design their submarine.
"I want it red!"
"I want it to be all different colors. We can use crayons!"
"The submarine has a telescope on it so you can see out of it."
At the end of our day the kids talked about what they needed in order to make a submarine.
"We need paper towel tubes!"
"I think we need to draw circles on it!"
"It will need like windows too."
"Can we make it yellow?"
"I want to make it red too!"
:"We should make some of it green!"
There were so many ideas flying around and so much to think about over the weekend. It was fun to hear all of the kids express their wants and allow each child to have their voice in the making of the Pine class submarine! Stay tuned
