How Can You Make Your Shadow Move?

The Pine kids continued to explore their shadows and light a little deeper today. While on our walk around the neighborhood, some of them realized we weren't able to see our shadows.

"The sun isn't out so we can't see them!"
"It needs to come out so our shadows come out."
"Your shadow is just you! It's like you but on the ground."

As we continued on our walk, E exclaimed, "My shadow is back!"
He danced around excitedly and started walking with his legs out wide and arms spread out.
"My shadow is right here. It's walking!"

The others gazed down at the ground and noticed their shadows were also walking with them.
"They came back out because the sun is out!"
"The shadows do what you do."

Back in the room, we wondered how else can we make our shadows move.
F had an idea... how about jumping?

Could we make our shadows dance too?

The kids watched as their shadows moved when they did. They made both big and small motions with their bodies noticing how the shadows being cast made the same fluid movements.

It's been so fun exploring movement with light!

Week 2 Day 2

Pine Family is rocking and rolling in week 2! We are having less feelings of sad, mad, and scared upon entering class and more happy and fun throughout the day!  Friendly reminders: Water bottles should only come to school filled with water (it's the best for our bodies and in case another student would accidently take a sip it won't cause harm), sunscreen should be applied before drop off (there is not a lot of shade and not a lot of time for us to get the kiddos all lathered up), and bug spray should be applied before drop off (this is mostly needed when we start going to the forest on Tuesdays, starting on Sept 12th). Thanks :)

Welcome back

Happy Tuesday! I hope you enjoyed your extra long weekend together but glad to see you all today. We changed out our word of the week, ask your kiddo if they remember what it is (PUT). At centers we continued exploring small world and our bakery. We opened the sensory table again and some faux snow and polar animals which was a big hit! We also changed out our gross motor center, changing out our obstacle course (crawl through tunnel, jump 10 times on the trampoline, and (steam)roll or summersault on the mat) for some thing new. Ask your kiddo if they tried to scoop the snowball, carry it across the balance beam and PUT it on the snowman.

All the fun

Today was not a typical day in the Pine room. We pulled out some new items to explore, had an impromptu dance party, capered, had a practice fire drill (during snack of all times) and ended out in the sunshine by the snail.  To our sick friends, we wish you well and hope to see you Monday! Have a great weekend :)
