What a beautiful day to walk around the neighborhood! The Pine class set out together to look for different colors and other common neighborhood things. Since we have been talking about weather in the classroom, the kids were anxious to get outside and see the leaves changing.
C took his job of marking things off our list very seriously.
"Look, I can find all of this stuff! Over there is a red stop sign so we can cross it off!"
As we continued down the sidewalk V & B noticed a color that wasn't labeled on our checklist.
"We need to add black!"
"Yeah our shadows are black and we need to count those too."
"Yeah our shadows are black and we need to count those too."
V & B worked together to spell out the word "black" to add it to our list of colors.
"Buh buh, oh that's a b sound!"
"Ah-ah, A!"
"Kuh-kuh, K!"
They quickly wrote the word and then began putting plus signs next to how many different things they saw that were black.
"Look, it's red!"
"They are green too!"
"They leaves are changing colors. They are going to fall soon."
"We found so many things that are red and green. I am looking for the heart on the tree!"
"I see the heart! It's way over there. We have to mark it off."
"It's red!"
"I'm finding so many things from here. I found these flowers, and the stop sign. I can even see all the different colors. I found the green grass and the orange door!"
As we move into a new week the kids began noticing the change in temperature.
"I had to wear a jacket this morning!"
"It's kind of cold today."
"The leaves are changing too."
"The leaves are changing too."
Our walk provided a lot of different talking points revolving around the colors we see, the sounds we hear, and the temperature. As we returned from our walk, B asked if we could continue our exploration and investigation into weather. Looking forward to hearing about their theories on weather and the changing seasons!
