The Pine kids noticed something a little different about this morning than previous mornings.
"It was so dark this morning!"
"It was also cold."
"I think it's going to rain!"
"It was also cold."
"I think it's going to rain!"
"The clouds are kind of grey and white."
"That means it's going to rain!"
"Can I show you what lightning looks like?"
B drew two different lightning strikes.
"First they are small, and then they get really big!"
"First they are small, and then they get really big!"
"Lightning is yellow!"
"You can't hear it."
"You can hear thunder!"
"You can hear thunder!"
"You can see it too!"
We then wondered what does thunder look like?
During capers we posed the question
"Can You Draw the Weather?"
"We need blue for the rain, and purple for the thunder, and yellow for lightning!"
C began drawing his rain. He made large strokes of blue down his paper.
"This is a big rain!"
F started making dots across his paper as he glanced up at the projector.
"I made the clouds. This is what they look like when it's raining a lot! They are dark blue."
E from Magnolia drew both long lines and little dots.
"The lines are the rain and the dots are the dripping. The rain is kind of blue."
T also grabbed a crayon and started making dots and lines to represent the rain. He would point towards the video of rain falling and then make quick strokes on his paper.
Our conversation of weather has really taken off now that we have seen everything from 90 degree heat, sunny cool mornings, and cloudy rainy ones. We were happy to share our own findings about weather with kids from other classes. Collaborating is a beautiful thing!
