Weather Exploration

Last week our conversation ended talking about different kinds of weather and what it looked like in terms of colors and in hand drawn pictures. Today we continued a deeper exploration of rain specifically.

We started the day off by asking "is it hot or cold this morning?"
The kids took a poll and chose whether they thought it was hot or cold.

Each child thought about their own experiences of walking into school this morning.

"I was kind of cold."

"Yeah, I was hot and I wore a shirt like this." as V pointed to her sleeveless shirt.

"When it's hot, you have to cool down. You sweat to cool down."

As our morning continued the kids described the weather outside.

"It's hot & it's really sunny!"

Since it was so sunny outside, we wondered how we could make it rain inside.

"Look, it's dripping!"

"It looks like it's raining! It's going really slow, but if it was pouring it would be going really fast."

"It's going down everywhere! They go slow."

While some of the kids were squeezing the eyedropper at the top, B took a different approach and held his eyedropper perpendicular to the plastic sheet.

"Wow look it's like a really big rain. It's so big from using the big eyedropper! It like goes everywhere."

F experimented with different ways to use the eyedroppers as well. He would squeeze the rubber tip hard making the water shoot out with more force. The explosion of water made him giggle as he continued to watch the water drip down.

At the end of our day we wondered what the weather would be like tomorrow. Will it be hot or cold? Will it be rainy or sunny? How can we find out what the weather will be?

Week 2 Day 2

Pine Family is rocking and rolling in week 2! We are having less feelings of sad, mad, and scared upon entering class and more happy and fun throughout the day!  Friendly reminders: Water bottles should only come to school filled with water (it's the best for our bodies and in case another student would accidently take a sip it won't cause harm), sunscreen should be applied before drop off (there is not a lot of shade and not a lot of time for us to get the kiddos all lathered up), and bug spray should be applied before drop off (this is mostly needed when we start going to the forest on Tuesdays, starting on Sept 12th). Thanks :)

Welcome back

Happy Tuesday! I hope you enjoyed your extra long weekend together but glad to see you all today. We changed out our word of the week, ask your kiddo if they remember what it is (PUT). At centers we continued exploring small world and our bakery. We opened the sensory table again and some faux snow and polar animals which was a big hit! We also changed out our gross motor center, changing out our obstacle course (crawl through tunnel, jump 10 times on the trampoline, and (steam)roll or summersault on the mat) for some thing new. Ask your kiddo if they tried to scoop the snowball, carry it across the balance beam and PUT it on the snowman.

All the fun

Today was not a typical day in the Pine room. We pulled out some new items to explore, had an impromptu dance party, capered, had a practice fire drill (during snack of all times) and ended out in the sunshine by the snail.  To our sick friends, we wish you well and hope to see you Monday! Have a great weekend :)
